Australia Federal Election 2016: Uncertain outcome as recriminations begin to fly

Mr Turnbull

CANBERRA, 3 July 2016- WITH the election outcome still far from certain, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Labor leader Bill Shorten have both addressed the media.

Mr Turnbull said he remains “quietly confident” of forming a majority government.

Both leaders revealed they had spoken to members of the cross bench this morning, as speculation about a hung parliament or a possible minority government intensifies.

With a little more than 77 per cent of the vote counted, after pre-poll votes were added to running totals in 150 lower house seats in the early hours of this morning, the Coalition and Labor had each won 67 seats, the Greens one and independents four.

The future Australian government will be resolved by the 11 seats which remain in doubt. Of these, Labor is ahead in six. (www.theheraldsun.com)
